As travellers, you can be who you choose to be. It’s your moment to don the cape, forget the laundry or bills, and give life to make-believe stories. You can lead many lives, live many stories, and write many truths. After all, we’re all pedestrians walking on a nameless street — hoping to find something along the way that catches our eye. What you see or feel depends upon the depth of your wandering gaze. An extraordinary monument might seem pedestrian — if it couldn’t strike a chord. And a pedestrian trail might seem spectacular because it was far removed from the tourist hype. Travel can also make you oscillate between escapism and reality. Seeking isolation, wandering in anonymity, and walking along unfamiliar streets can bring temporary liberation from all that you wanted to escape from. Or might make you face reality from a point of no escape.
I wanna run,
I want to hide
I wanna tear down the walls
That hold me inside.
I wanna reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name.
I wanna feel sunlight on my face.
I see the dust-cloud
Disappear without a trace.
I wanna take shelter
From the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
We’re still building and burning down love
Burning down love.
And when I go there
I go there with you
(It’s all I can do).
The city’s a flood, and our love turns to rust.
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust.
I’ll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name.
— Bono, U2

Pedestrian, pedestrians, and not pedestrian at all. Good compilation.
Thanks, Maggie! 🙂
One of my favorite songs! Beautiful photos and amazing post ☺️
I absolutely love this song and can’t believe I haven’t listened to it for a long time. 🙂
Very good and the photos are beautiful.
Thanks a bunch, Karen! These are pictures clicked on a short weekend trip. 🙂
Love this – so true
Thanks! 🙂
That is so true, traveling can show you the other angle of life! Great photos and poem!
Thanks, Ann! 🙂 Travel can be a great filter of seeing what you want to see or not.
Choicest images for the prompt, Cheryl. I though I’ll get to see lots of images with people walking on street/road but I was surprised to see other images here! Love the photographers perspective !
Thanks, Arvind! These days I’m dabbling in photography too. 🙂 It’s easier to match words to visuals.
It is…. because you match them well! 😃
Good to know it worked! 🙂
Fabulous photos and I loved the song lyrics interspersed through the post 👍🏻😊
I used to listen to this song on a loop. I hadn’t heard it in a while and it was nice to give visuals to the lyrics. 🙂
It worked well 👍🏻👍🏻
🙂 🙂
Beautiful post 🙂 I love how you incorporated the theme of the photo challenge with the poem!
I’m so glad you liked it! Bono (from the band U2) is a quite the ‘poet’! 🙂
A thought-provoking statement “Travel can also make you oscillate between escapism and reality”. Still scratching my head to determine which one in my case! 🙂
I start as an escapist, transform into an observer, and end up being a realist! 🙂
Ha! Ha! Ha! You are so funny sometimes! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Only sometimes? 🙂
Wonderful post to a wonderful song ~ the last stanza and the last photo are just a perfect summary. Cheers and many happy travels 🙂
Thanks, Randall! U2 has been my favourite band for a very long time. Couldn’t resist the dedication! 🙂
Lovely post, Cheryl – and I really like that gravel road photo at the end!
Thanks, Lex! 🙂
I love that song! I was singing along with you all the way through 🙂 🙂
I’m so happy to connect with so many U2 fans! It’s hard to go wrong with their lyrics. 🙂
Beautiful post, stunning photo story with a song in background.
Thank you so much! Truly means a lot coming from you. I absolutely love your pictures and stories!
Oh thank you so much for your kind words.
